The “Who” In Youth Substance Abuse
by Mary on Aug.02, 2010, under Addiction
It was once believed that substance abuse in young people was a problem that only existed in poor, underprivileged neighborhoods. It did not take long to realize this was false information, especially when substance abuse cases were rising in upper class neighborhoods and schools.
It seems that then people shifted to believe this was an issue to address with their children as they became teenagers. Again, students as young as six years old are now being disciplined for bringing illegal substances to school. This ranges from alcohol, prescription drugs and illegal street drugs. These reports prove that all youth, regardless of age, social status of the family, sex and even location are at risk of developing substance abuse problems.
